Clanmatch Results
Results against Big Al Snow Plow February 21st, 2006
This was our second comprehensive clanmatch in our clan's history and we were nervous. Prior to the clanmatch, we agreed that both clans would choose five different team games that were to be announced at the beginning of the match and that we would alternate between each clan's game list until we'd played them all. The clan we were up against a clan we had never met before in combat and that same group was supposed to choose half the games for the match. We didn't know what games they would choose and could only prepare for the five that we had picked in advance. Our nerves quickly calmed as we got started, they calmed as we felt the enemy's strength, and they calmed as we learned to exploit their weakness.
Things looked bad from the beginning for the Big Al Snow Plow clan. Their overlord SIDEWALLHYNES was missing in action with their list of games, and after the fourth game it looked like they wouldn't have enough players to continue the match. Just when we thought their team was down for the count, BASP showed it's depth and rallied together to fight against the forces of the Winged Warriors in eight* games.
- This clanmatch started on Wednesday February 21st at 9:29pm central time.

Game I: Team Slayer on Sanctuary - Our Choice
The first game of the match started with four player teams going head to head in a custom Team Slayer match. This match was dominated by the Winged Warriors who had every player pull positive numbers. Things became much harder for the Big Al clan near the end of the game when Grim Shadow 809 pulled out and took their comeback chances with him.

Game II: Assault on Terminal - Our Choice
Our second game was Assualt on Terminal, but BASP only had three members after Grim's departure. They were confident and wished to continue regardless. We recognized their resolve and changed the game settings to force even teams. Because we had more players, one us had to sit out until the other team reached the same size. The member who was sitting out rotated with the other players any time one of them died. This went on for almost two rounds and Roland sat out for the entire time because we weren't dying. To his relief MANDATE 69 joined the opposing ranks at the end of the second round and Roland was able to play the rest of the game.

Game III: Team Slayer on Ivory Tower - Their Choice
This was the first game of the match that BASP choose. ROLO16 was having trouble loading the map, BASP suggested that we start the game without him and simply have all of the players wait until he joined the game. It sounded good at the time so we agreed. As soon our screens read "ROLO16 has joined the game" every player sprung into action. Meanwhile Rolo was still having problems loading the map even after rebooting his xbox. There we were in the middle of Ivory Tower, bullets flying in almost every direction, grenades exploding too close for comfort and we were missing one of our own. We couldn't stop the game because they had the party leadership there was no way to communicate with the other team. The Winged Warriors had to make a choice; to fight with three players against their four or to quit the game and start over with fair teams. The Winged Warriors know that quitting is never an option and they played as though it never even crossed their minds. Why BASP didn't enable the "force even teams" option I may never know and there is little I can do about it now. But I stress that even though the odds were stacked against the Winged Warriors, they demonstrated their sharp ability to work together as a team. When Rolo did arrived our score quickly increased to fifty points.

Game IV: 1 Flag CTF on Zanzibar - Our Choice
Big Al Snow Plow was down three games to zero and this game held their only remaining hope for winning the clanmatch. In the first round we managed to pull the flag out of the base but because of our own mistakes we didn't score. As the second round started things looked good for BASP; they had held us back in the first round and now it was their turn. After a long three minutes and numerous tries to penetrate our defenses, the clock expired on them and they surrendered the offense to us for round three. The score remained pointless for both teams as the Winged Warriors prepared for their second attempt to capture the flag. Our opponent's defenses hardened with the hope of stopping us twice, but this time we worked quickly and had them on their heels from the start. After the Winged Warriors scored the enemy had only one more chance to tie the game. Their morale began to sink with the reality that victory was beyond their grasp; but the game wasn't over. That final round must have been unbearable for them because two of their team members dropped out of the game. With half of their team missing and half of ours sitting out, they watched the clock run down to zero as we watched our flag.

Game V: Team Shotguns on Lockout - Their Choice
After the CTF game on Zanzibar the Big Al clan only had two members in the party. So we played a free for all pistols game with no shields and no radar. During this game the BASP ranks increased from two to six allowing us to continue our clanmatch.
For the fifth game in our clanmatch BASP choose to play team shotguns on lockout. The game had a crazy amount of lag and we were forced to face the fact that the shotgun can be very unreliable weapon. This game was filled with general chaos, shotguns, one grenade kills, and an unreasonable amount of lag time robberies. I don't know why they choose to play a twelve man game on lockout, but in spite of all these things we doubled our efforts and struggled through it.

Game VI: Team Snipers on Ascension - Their Choice
Before we knew what was happening BASP had us pinned pretty well with the banshee. This went on for a few minutes until Ryan pulled an on the fly jet-jacking which promptly turned the tables in our favor. Roland reminded us that he had a fast trigger finger when he pulled a total of twelve kills for the team. He, and two other members also went on killing sprees which helped us destroy Big Al Snow Plow once again.

Game VII: Multi Flag on Coagulation - Our Choice
Three different times we stole their flag and three times we captured their flag. This was an easy victory for us, so easy and so fast that Russell never died. Game seven was our third objective game against BASP -- it was their third shut-out.

Game IIX: Team Slayer on Zanzibar - Their Choice
Game eight was a monumental lag session at some points. I honestly don't believe that anyone had a good connection except for Ryan who apparently had a great connection. I want to say he had host but he didn't have the party leadership (and members of the BASP clan insisted that the original party leader always has host in a custom game). Host or not he scored an overkill on the gauss warthog and ended up with 36 points next to his gamertag. Neglegance hurt them this game, BASP neglected to enable the force even teams option again. Their player became so frustrated with the slow connection late in the game that he decided to leave. That didn't help.

Match Summary
Aside from the target practice they gave us, BASP was a great clan to play with and against. Apart from only one of their player's who I won't mention here, they all had very positive attitudes and were great sports through out the match. It's pretty rough when you lose eight games straight but players like MANDATE 69, c h u s e y o and GUNS 23 were true warriors in the way they handled it. It is a fact that there was lag during this match (when isn't there some degree of lag time?), but after looking at the scores you realize that game four was the only close game. We won the five slayer games by margins anywhere between 15-42 points and kept them scoreless in every single objective game we played. My point is that lag and other problems can only hurt your team so much, that is part of the reason we play more than three games. All in all it was a decisive clanmatch, and one that BASP would probably like to forget.
Big Al Snow Plow, on behalf of the Winged Warriors I thank you for participating in this clanmatch.

About Big Al Snow Plow
I caught up with some of the Big Al members the night after our clan match and asked them a few questions. One of my questions is one you've probably been wondering yourself -- I asked them about the name. Let me tell you how surprised I was to learned that Big Al had actually been a "special" friend long before he became the hero that inspired the clan. Big Al doesn't actually have a snow plow at this moment but he is planning on buying one when he grows up. His neighborhood legend immortalizes Big Al as the one and only kid with enough courage to ride his "snow plow" year-round. Snow, rain or shine Big Al was a faithful rider of the snow plow even though the other kids would often call Al mean names and call his beloved snow plow a toboggan. These other kids also made fun of Al because he rode the short bus, but Al didn't care. Al placed a great deal of his confidence in his future aspirations to be a real life snow plower, and because of this his dedication drove him to plow everyday. Al knew he wasn't like the other kids, but he also knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. The overlord's imaginary friend became the embodiment of a clan of kids who ride their sleds in the summer.

Notes:
*As previously mentioned we had originally planned to play ten games. However at the end of the 8th game Big Al Snow Plow decided not to continue because of the bad connection and the resulting lag time.
