Our third comprehensive clanmatch, and the second match of the 2006 season, was against the Clan of Bobs. For this seven game clanmatch we knew in twenty-four hours in advance what games we would be playing against the opponent. Because of this extra time it wasn't near as nerve racking as our last match and we were able to prepare a little better.
Things got started over half an hour late for us as we were missing some players. After several phone calls we had our team assembled. The Bobs were waiting and ready with six of their faithful and available combatants. Let the games begin.
The first game is always the worst on your nerves because you don't know what to expect from the other clan. Being able to play a game that you're prepared for adds a helpful dose of familiarity in a game with unfamiliar opponents.
KryptoCleric was kind and allowed us to play our 1 Flag CTF game on Zanzibar first. The Clan of Bobs were persistent in their blue team attack and managed to take the flag out of our base on both attempts. It was their leaderless and unorganized offense that made our defense impenetrable for them in the end. COB had force, it just wasn't focused.
As a result of our precision teamwork, Brett accumulated more kills than their entire team combined. Our players ripped them apart and scattered their pieces. Once we had the flag outside, our two snipers surppressed them while we carried the flag home. It's always a good thing when your team knows what it needs to do and who needs to do it before the game. This time we knew, and it helped tremendously.

If I were to create a list of all the things that the Clan of Bobs are good at, I would place creating game types that disorient their enemies near the top.
For our second duel we played something that was aptly named "Zero verses Bobs2". I'm unclear about the history of this game but apparently we weren't the first team to fall to it's reign of havoc. Anytime you are playing a game where the hill is out in the open and everyone has a sniper rifle your life span decreases dramatically. Especially when mayhem and grenades seamed to fall from the snowy sky as every player fought for their life. Hill time became a precious commodity when we realized it could only be obtained a few seconds at a time. The Clan of Bobs took us by surprise, and they did it with seventeen seconds to spare.

With the score tied at one point per clan we regrouped and prepared for the next clanmatch battle. We were confident going into this game but so were the Clan of Bobs. They did everything in their power to keep us from scoring, they made things difficult and they shook our confidence. At times it seemed that their whole team was on defense guarding that flag, and even our aggressive attacks yielded little or no results. When we finally defeated the COB fortress guards we had less than two minutes left to play. We took the teleporter with the flag and were fighting all the way. There was a small series of fierce battles just past the rock garden where the Bobs would only let us inch the flag forward. It was there that the Bobs almost stopped us from touching the flag and it was only seconds away from returning to their base. Just as the timer hit the zero, Russell pulled a sweet suicide grab that saved the game and allowed us to score in overtime. Games are always tense in sudden death with the game on the line. This match was no exception and the Clan of Bobs showed some really good teamwork.

Game four was another peculiar game type from the Clan of Bobs that they call FATE. This time the settings are team oddball with random secondary weapons and a twenty minute timer. The point of FATE is to get the most kills, the catch is that you have no idea how many kills you have until the game is over. Twenty minutes of killing, twenty minutes of uncertainty. We didn't have a clue what the score was and that made every player play their hardest the entire adrenaline pumping experience.

After our problems with uneven teams in previous matches we made it a prerequisite that all the gametypes for official clanmatches to have the Force Even Teams (FET) option enabled. FET is an game setting that keeps every team at an even number of players by rotating players on the larger team or teams. If the teams were five on four the FET setting would rotate players on the five man team by having one player sit out until a teammate dies and he subs in. The player that died would then sit out until another player died thus keeping the game four on four the entire time. This is used in our matches to keep the games fair in the event of players dropping out or extra reinforcements arriving.
FET is usually a good thing, but this time FET fought back. In the first round I (Night Rider 7) took the ghost and rushed to grab the beam rifle. After securing my weapon of choice I tested a new tactic and ambushed the COB warthog with my ghost. I badly damaged the hog but was killed in action. That thirty seconds was all of the combat I would see for our first rest of our assault game on relic. I sat out for the rest of the first round and all of the second, third and final rounds. That sucked. Apparently the Bobs had a similar experience on another game but it was tough watching my team and not being able to help. All I could do was communicate important information to the team, at one point all four of my teammates died and I was still sitting out. The that were playing actually armed the bomb 95% but it returned before they could finish the job. Four miserable rounds for me and a game that resulted in a tie for our clans.

This game went by so fast that its hard to remember what happened. In less than four minutes the Winged Warriors stole their flag five times, returned our flag four times and captured their flag three times. This was also our third shutout of the clanmatch.

For the final game of the clanmatch we revisited Lockout for a game of WW Team 100. Though they tried valiantly, the Clan of Bobs just couldn't outplay us. They didn't possess enough teamwork and communication which made their fight against the Winged Warriors too much to handle. After looking at the stats for each of our players it becomes apparent that our strongest weapon was our teamwork; and with it we destroyed the Clan of Bobs in a final display of strength, skill, and teamwork.

This clanmatch was a victory for the Winged Warriors; we won five, lost one and tied another. Between the fourth and fifth game the COB was short some players, so they sent out a call for reinforcements while we intermitted for some MLG FFA on Midship. By the time Ryan had fifty kills the had arrived. After the match was over we played one more final game of Big Team Battle with them. It was good to play a casual game after seven games of fierce competition. Clan of Bobs, I thank you for accepting and playing in this clanmatch, I hope we can do it again in the future.

These humble fellows operate out of their home at the HaloWiki. As a clan of more than seventy members the Clan of Bobs has depth in their roster and the experience that comes with being an older clan. I have nothing but praise for the way that they acted. They were by far the best and most enjoyable group of people we've played against, and if you read their clan's code it will become obvious to you why they are such an awesome group of players. I strongly recommend the Clan of Bobs to anyone who is looking for a good and solid community. They are the best Halo 2 community out there.
