Winged Warriors

Results against Podtacular All-Stars

Relentless is the word I now use to describe the Podtacular All-Star squad that the Winged Warriors faced on Sunday, September 3rd. From the moment our eyes saw the dull glow of Lockout until the last shell tumbled into the water of Sanctuary our opponents were an un-negotiable wave. Their strength came from their movement as a pack, never truly allowing an uncontested kill, more frequently arriving at your doorstep two to three men deep. For a clan, such as ours, that wishes to grow and be challenged, no greater foe could have been asked for that day.

Game I: MLG Team Slayer on Lockout - Shock and Awe

In the beginning there was chaos. In a rare occurrence, both squads spawned in bed together near low sniper tower, and unfortunately we were the ones who were pushed out. With a short-lived triple-kill opportunity bizarrely turned into a betrayal the Pod took a sudden and quick kill lead 5-0. With almost no release from a constant spawn and arrival at their gun barrel a blur of kills continued to accrue for the Podtacular squad. The Warriors leaning on the battle rifle tower defense attempted to establish a zone from which to strike back safely, but smart plays from the glass ramp and control of the sniper rifle proved to strong for an already shaken team. As if on repeat: library would fall, battle rifle one would fall, then sniper would destroy an upper battle rifle player, or two; and the cycle seemed to go on for 20 kills. Soon, with little to no recourse the Warriors broke into a man-to-man frenzy attempting to steal what could be taken before the final bell rang. The sound of a 2-1 one loss ratio was deeper than expected only 7 minutes before.

Game II: MLG CTF Classic on Midship - The Face of Discouragement

Reeling from an unexpectedly hard loss the Warriors regrouped and focused on the classic hope in a match of initial failing: that the opponent is strong in slaying, but not in skirmish. With this hope, and realistic determination the Warriors dug in for a hard battle. In strong fashion we won the initial rush and established control of pink side and began to set up a high defense of the map. With constant sways back and forth the tone of the game seemed much more balanced than the previous match. We lost an initial cap to the Pod but it was expected to happen at least once and we pushed on many times digging out a flag within inches of a score. Our inches turned into miles though as each seemingly destined success was met with tragic loss. With patient persistence the Pod ground out 5 captures successfully ending all of the Warriors attempts to score. Our hope of lopsided strength demolished we settled in for what we consider one of our strongest game types, and bore the burden of being one game away from a shutout.

Game III: MLG Oddball on Lockout - Frustration in a Pod

This was the second of the games where the absolute relentlessness of the Pod could be felt everywhere. Matching us kill for kill in every instance, and then having one more man there to carry the ball or clean up the battle proved overpowering for the Warriors, even when nearly set up in battle rifle tower. The tone of the game was a bit chaotic as the Pod broke from their initial strategy to hold library and began a creative and volatile run utilizing a man on battle rifle three and three men with ball in back of snipe. This strategy while seemingly breakable proved as tenacious as the Pod's earlier Lockout slayer victory; and combined with the Warriors failure to capitalize on man-down situations for ball time the game quickly and permanently swung in the Podtacular's favor. Each time the Warriors successfully broke battle rifle tower a new player would be set-up there by the time the Warriors had breached sniper. This spontaneous strategy sealed the victory for the Podtacular squad. Podtacular 5:00, Winged Warriors 0:41.

Game IV: MLG Team Slayer on Warlock -

This game started out pretty even. The Winged Warriors pulled almost kill for kill and began to stretch out for their first sign of real hope in this brutal series. Somewhere in the stretch Podtacular inched ahead little by little and almost by surprise, they took what should have been a close game by sixteen points.

Game V: MLG Team Slayer on Sanctuary - Shutout & Shutdown

The Winged Warriors started this game with every intention of stopping the shutout and saving some dignity. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Podtacular had just the opposite in mind. Running a simple strategy of center control the Pod-Stars clinched the fifth and final game; what had started out as another hopeful fight for the Warriors ended in a sour defeat.

Match Summary

The Podtacular team was in order and ready to fight. These four stars did an excellent job, playing solid in every game and becoming the first team to shutout the Winged Warriors in a five game series. Despite some warnings, none of them talked trash or were disrespectful at all. The All-Stars were a great team to play with even though we couldn't handle their stellar performance. Both the Podtacular All-Stars and our fans can rest assured that we will practice with Podtacular in mind and that we will do everything we can to be ready for them next time. -Isnagov, Clan Member and Night Rider 7, Webmaster and Overlord
