Winged Warriors face off in a deja-vu like rematch against SBG Omega

For the second time this year the Winged Warriors fielded both team Pegasus and team Phoenix against their new Halo rivals and friends from Saved By Grace Omega. The last war between these two Xbox Live clans ended in a disappointing tie after Team Phoenix defeated SBG's Alpha team and Team Pegasus was shut out by SBG's Omega team. Those insatiable results sparked a debate concerning which clan took the overall victory because SBG's Omega team won by a larger margin than Phoenix did against the Alpha team. Members of the Winged Warriors called it a tie, stating that both teams racked one win and one loss, while SBG players claimed that they took it all because they had a higher win percentage coming out of the match. While the debate was quickly settled it left players from both sides wanting a chance to prove supremacy.

The Board Is Set

The structure for this match was unique. The two winning squads from the last match, Team Phoenix and SBG's Omega team, faced off against each other in three different Major League Gaming style 4v4's, while the two remaining teams would play the same games simultaneously in a different lobby. Following those first three games the clans merged their two teams to form eight member battalions which would face off for the final games.

The start of this match felt good. Most of the Winged Warriors had been getting warmed up a good half hour before the match started. We welcomed our opponents quickly and got started. SBG Omega split off and hosted Team Phoenix for the first slayer game on Lockout while Pegasus was hosted by SBG Alpha.

Game One

Winged Warriors Halo 2 Sniper Medal    Team Phoenix soon found themselves contained on their side of the map by Deadly Warrior's host sniper and the rest of team Omega. Team Phoenix's leader said "Deadly would pick us off with one shot every time". Deadly Warrior's host sniper was well protected, so well protected that SBG Omega never gave up the sniper long enough for any of the warriors to use it. These factors proved to be too much for Phoenix to handle and they finished the game thirty-five points to fifty.

Things were different for Team Pegasus who quickly acquired the sniper rifle and set up a solid stance that made it difficult for SBG Alpha to control the map. Both teams played a long range game for the most part, not pushing anything but picking up kills where they could. Neither team had a tremendous lead and the game came down to the wire. With both teams at about forty kills the Winged Warriors took the sniper and exchanged it's fifty caliber bullets for the points needed to win the match. Team Pegasus took the game and their fist victory of the year fifty to forty-four.

Game Two

Game two was an MLG oddball game to be played on Midship, one of Halo 2's smallest maps. Team Phoenix again had trouble against SBG's Omega squad and battled back and forth for the lead. Omega's slayer based style became the chief enemy of Team Phoenix and helped SBG win by more than a minute

Pegasus's chief opponent for the second game wasn't SBG, but rather the intense lag that made normal attacks extremely difficult to pull off. At one point SBG lead by more than a minute. Team Pegasus overcame the deficit and the poor connections to battle through for a spectacular finish.

Game Three

When Phoenix started the third game on Ivory Tower they quickly found themselves losing. SBG Omega had managed to grab all of the power weapons and they accumulated an eighteen point lead. Phoenix was able to strip them of the power weapons and cut their lead in half but it was too little to late. SBG Omega won the one hundred point game by nine kills.

Team Pegasus approached Team Slayer on Ivory Tower a little different than they have in the past. They took the lead and never let go, in true Winged Warrior fashion they controlled the map and the power weapons. SBG came close to taking the lead but they were unable to capitalize on good opportunities, partly due to some clutch sniping and Isnagov's thirty three kills. The Winged Warrior's Mighty war pony wins eighty-nine to seventy-eight.

The great battle field of Coagulation, it has to be better in a LAN

350 Kills on Coag

This is where things get interesting. One team from each clan had been shutout leaving the clans at a dead even tie. Team Pegasus was going to win their individual contest because they won their first three games, but Team Phoenix was in the exact opposite situation and would be unable to salvage their loss. Since the team battles had already been decided the emphasis switched to whether the Winged Warriors or SBG Omega would take the overall victory. The two Winged Warriors teams were set to play the two SBG teams in what could be argued as the best team game of all time - capture the flag on Coagulation.

Game Four

SBG grabbed rockets right from the start and took an immediate advantage by destroying all of the Winged Warrior's active vehicles. However, SBG went from an advantage to a disadvantage in a hurry when they started delivering to the Winged Warriors. With every attempt they made to grab the flag from the Winged Warrior's defense heavy team they brought warthogs and weapons. Soon the Winged Warriors had the rocket launcher, both snipers and all four warthogs. A few laps later the Winged Warriors racing crew stole SBG's flag and drove it home. The rest of the game was dominated by the Winged Warrior's defense which never allowed their flag to get more than a few feet away from home. Winged Warriors win one to zero.

The Winged Warriors now lead by one game, but they needed to win the final game to cinch the overall victory. If the Winged Warriors lost they would be forced to play a over time game to break the tie.

Game Five

This time around on Coagulation it was SBG's turn to have host for the slayer match. The game started out even, both teams traded kills almost immediately. After several minutes of play the Winged Warriors were holding the rockslide and blue base with a five point lead. SBG repeatedly attacked the rockslide with the help from nearby spawns and managed to take the sniper rifles. After their successful attack they unintentionally forced an off spawn for the Winged Warriors who started spawning across the map. Far away, the perfect distance to use sniper rifles on your enemy. Their score soon skyrocketed and SBG tied up the overall standings with an impressive one hundred to sixty-six victory.

It took about ten minutes to decide what the final game would be. The Winged Warriors wanted to play a low ball game because of it's emphasis on teamwork and because it would be nearly impossible to tie but SBG pushed hard for another slayer game. The Winged Warriors gave away the choice to SBG in the interest of moving forward, agreeing to let them choose the game type and the Winged Warriors would choose the map. SBG choose MLG team slayer with a battle rifle/SMG start and the Warriors choose to play on Sanctuary.

Overtime

Sixteen players on a medium sized map proved to be a poor environment for the teamwork oriented Winged Warriors who had chosen Sanctuary for it's no sniping weapon set. SBG seized an early lead in the chaos and never let go. Finishing of the dispute and the match with a one hundred to seventy-seven victory that sealed an overall win for their clan.
