This would be the first clan match for the Winged Warriors since the Halo 3 beta ended on June 10th. We were prepared for the match; however, we were unsure how effective our Halo 2 skill would be after participating in the Halo 3 beta for the last few weeks.
It started out like a game of chess, with both teams making planned out attacks. Unfortunately for the Winged Warriors the pure team slaying ability of H2O was overpowering and the Warriors were put on the defensive for the majority of the game. However, we were able to sneak behind the H2O perimeter and successfully plant the bomb. In the end, the game went to the 15 minute limit, and H2O won 2 plants to our 1.
The game started and each team set up on one side of the map, and prepared to kill any enemy that went for the ball. The Winged Warriors made the first move and were successful in moving the ball to the sniper tower. Unfortunately H2O moved fast and our control was lost. The remainder of the game was a back and forth struggle for control. However, H2O’s control of the ball was greater and this lead to their victory in game two. The final score was Winged Warriors 2:43, H2O 5:00.
A little change of pace was needed so the Winged Warriors decided to play to their strengths and catch H2O off guard. The first round began and through well executed defensive stands the Warriors held off H2O. The next round began and the Warriors rushed for the flag, and were successful in destroying the wraith and taking out the H2O defense. Then through well executed attacks the Warriors pulled the flag out of the base and MASbetty made his way to the capture point. The next round began and this time H2O was able to weaken our defense through continuous attacks and eventually pull the flag out of our base. However, to Warriors dismay H2O decided to score the flag underneath thus giving them no chance to put up a last stand. The final round began and the Winged Warriors attacked in force and pulled the flag out fast. With the combined cover of Pastemaster on the gauss turret, bart 008 with the sniper and MASbetty’s battle rifle; XXmrbenXX came away with the capture and the Winged Warriors claimed their first victory in the clan match.
H2O decided to play to their strengths in game four, and according to H2O Hustler, Warlock CTF was one of their strongest gametypes. The start of the game was a struggle for control of the map; however the Winged Warriors soon experienced déjà vu when the pure slaying ability of H2O came out in force. H2O set up a perimeter around the Warriors base and much to their dismay they were spawn killed into submission. However, a few decent spawns allowed the Warriors to band together and pull the flag out, and a well executed flag run and toss by Pastemaster to bart 008 led to a successful capture by MASbetty. Unfortunately for the Winged Warriors, H2O reformed their perimeter and again the Warriors spawn killed into submission. The map control of H2O let them come away with four captures to our one and take the win in game four.
The fifth game was a clan match tradition, in which the gametype would be our own created version of Team Slayer which gives every player the much sought after magnum. Since the Winged Warriors always choose the gametype the opposing team has choice of map, which for this game would be Lockout. The Warriors pulled out to an early 15-4 lead; however inopportune mistakes tied the game at 35. The game progressed and kills were traded back and forth, however, H2O’s control of the sniper rifle late in the game led to them coming away with a 100-75 win, and subsequent 4-1 victory in the clan match.
This clan match was a wake up call for the Winged Warriors. The games showed us that our brief experience with the Halo 3 beta has drastically affected our previously powerful Halo 2 skill. The members of H2O are a very strong and cohesive group of players. Our experience in the match showed us that H2O is a much disciplined group of gamers, and we hope that we can meet on the Halo 3 battlefield in the future.
